Frequently Asked Questions | Washington, D.C. Family Photography
Where will our session take place?
I offer sessions in a variety of settings within the Montgomery County, Washington, D.C., and Northern VA area. I want you to choose what feels natural to you. Some location examples are gardens, parks, and urban locations. We will confirm within two weeks of the session.
What should we wear?
Wear something comfortable that allows for movement! I usually suggest that mama picks her outfit first, then the rest of the family coordinates around it without being “matchy matchy.” I’ll send over a What to Wear Guide that you can review before your session.
Quick tips:
Stick to 2–3 coordinating colors
Avoid large logos, distracting patterns, or head-to-toe matching
Kids look best in fitted clothing rather than baggy outfits
Bring outfit changes if you’d like variety
Can I bring my dog?
Of course as long as the location allows dogs! I recommend bringing a friend or family member to help out for moments when we won’t need the dog in the photos.
What if my child is having a hard time?
It happens! My sessions are lifestyle based, so I follow your child’s needs, whether that means calm poses, movement, or play. Forced smiles rarely make great photos, so I use breaks and gentle prompts to capture authentic moments.
What happens if we need to reschedule due to weather?
I’ll reach out 2–3 days before the session to discuss rescheduling if needed. For rain, I usually make the call within 12–24 hours of the session.
Does my session include all the digital photos?
Yes that’s right! Your online gallery will include a minimum of 50 high-resolution images for download, sharing, and printing.
How long will it take to receive our images?
You’ll get your gallery within 2 weeks of your session!
What is your photography style?
My style is candid, bright, and honest. I aim to capture real connections and emotions, so when you look at your photos, you remember exactly how you felt. My editing style is bright and timeless, keeping your images true to the moment.
Do we need to bring anything to the session?
If your child really likes bringing their lovey or they are really into a specific toy or book, feel free to bring it! I can bring out a beautiful side of your children with some of their favorite comfort things.
We will likely have a variety of standing, sitting, and movement poses. For the sitting poses, I typically keep a couple of blankets in my car and am happy to use it at your session unless you have a favorite blanket you’d like to use!
Where do sessions usually take place?
I am happy to meet you at a nearby park, your house, your backyard, or any place that is meaningful to you. I am located in Kensington, MD but I am available for travel.
Timing tips:
Outdoor sessions: within 90 minutes of sunrise or sunset for the best light
In-home sessions: late morning (around 8:30–10:00am) to make the most of natural light
What can we expect during our session?
Expect fun, connection, and authentic interactions! I lightly pose and guide while letting kids be themselves. You’ll be playing, laughing, and enjoying your family while I capture the real moments and emotions.
